Every loose end was tied and, although it’s not all happy rainbows and sunshine, the characters are in a good place. After all that effort to be rid of him. I think Lauren would have created a brilliant book if she kept it to one rather than three.
That the Chemical Gardens weren’t explored. What does she do? But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain. On top of that, the ending is just as bad as one might expect. Looking forward to what else Lauren has in store for us!
I suppose I should be relieved that half of the most ridiculous parts of the premise has been waved away. Rhine, our boring, stupid Mary Sue of a heroine lives in a world where women are used as breeding chattel, because they die so young that babies are needed as early as possible.
